Behing the Music VIII: Ghost of my Waking

Hastang | 18 November 2007 | Behind the Music | 774 views | No Comment

This is part 8 of an 11-part series. Guile takes a whimsical journey down memory lane, retracing the bumpy pseudo-pathways that led to the final version of Hastang’s current tracks.

  • This song came from an A minor-based classic rock riff I was playing around with. Then Roy worked from there and took this song into effects-heavy territory. Gaw, for his part, elevated it into dreamy psychedelia. And that A minor-based classic rock riff? Now barely audible in the post-chorus parts and outro.
  • Meanwhile, lyricist Yan dedicates the words to her idol, Neil Gaiman, and the Sandman world he created.

Ghost of My Waking

Lyrics by Julie Ann Yan Redoble
Music & Arrangement by Hastang

You live in my dreams,
But I have no power
to conjure you in my waking.
You rule my fears,
there are no defenses
when you assault my senses.

In the fathoms of your eyes is
the irony of my demise.
You are lord of my dreams,
and ghost of my waking.

You are lord of my dreams,
and ghost of my waking.
You are the essence,
the purpose of my being.

You’re a stranger I’ve known
since the onset of time
before gods were born.
I relinquish my soul
to the visions you’ve spawned,
the epiphanies of illusion.

You are lord of my dreams,
and ghost of my waking.
And together, we will weave
the strands of meaning.
