Behind the Music III: Random
This is part 3 of an 11-part series. Guile takes a whimsical journey down memory lane, retracing the bumpy pseudo-pathways that led to the final version of Hastang’s current tracks.
- Among the songs in the album, this was the first we recorded in Galen’s Phoenix Glide Studio. We found ourselves very, very happy with the end result and we went on to record ten more songs in the same studio.
- Former lead guitar player Roy wanted to do a distinctive lead solo to be used in the song’s intro and coda. He came up with two different but equally good parts but he couldn’t decide which one to use. So I suggested he used the first one for the intro and the other one for the coda. Until now, I still couldn’t tell which part I like better.

Lyrics by Julie AnnYan Redoble
Music by HastangI don’t have a name
–at least not one you should know
Spare me the small talk,
pretense is lost here tonight
Just savor this moment
in the flickering lightI don’t have a story
–at least not one I can share
Don’t get to know me,
just give me what I need
Sate yourself, take your fill,
consume my greedI don’t have a reason
–at least not one to be told
I’m here coz in the furnace
I still am cold
This is a fleeting tangle
in a meaningless foldIn a random, fleeting moment,
Your body will fill mine,
Your touch will sate me,
And in that one fleeting moment,
Perhaps the emptiness will cave in on its ownI don’t have regrets
– at least not one you can see
A simple indulgence
of this hunger in me
You are random,
a release for the moment
One last kiss, leave now,
end this torment
