Behind the Music II: Deep Descent

guile | 26 October 2007 | Behind the Music | 283 views | No Comment

This is part 2 of an 11-part series. Guile takes a whimsical journey down memory lane, retracing the bumpy pseudo-pathways that led to the final version of Hastang’s current tracks.

  • We had done our homework — we were content with the arrangements for the verse and chorus parts — but somehow, the transition between second chorus to bridge just feels off (courtesy of a descending chord progression that I basically ripped off from Kim Thayil). Just barely a fortnight since joining the band, Gaw comes to the rescue with a Morello riff that’s just, absolutely, perfect. In fact, we liked it so much that we also put it in the coda.
  • Trivia: This song was originally titled “So Hard, So Deep”.

Deep Descent
Lyrics by Tessa Manto
Music & Arrangement by Hastang

When we met,
I hated your very sight.
You were incapable of love,
Obnoxious and proud,
You didn’t give a damn.

As time passed
I saw something
That made me look again
And made me realize
that I was wrong
I misjudged you

Oh …

Slowly,
Can’t you see I’m falling
Every time I see your shadow
Deep inside, my heart is melting
Don’t fall so deep
I was falling

You were trying hard
to push me away
I’m falling fast
And I’m aching
So hard, so deep

Now you’re here
You’re here with me
And I can’t believe
How good you make me feel
And now I find myself
Wanting more of you

Holding me
Kissing me
And caressing me
Making me do things
I never would
I never thought
We’d come this far

Oh …

I think that this should end
I think that we should never be together again
I don’t want to deny what I feel inside
But it’s wrong
So wrong to want you.

Everyday, I tell myself
That there’s no way for us to go on

Everyday, I tell myself
Don’t fall too deep
I was falling

You were trying hard
to push me away
I’m falling fast
And I’m aching

So hard, so deep

So deep

So deep
